Enhancing public trust in government is one potential application of blockchain in public services. While the enormous potential of the blockchain technology has been recognized by many experts, on the global scale it is still in its early development stage and has certain gray areas that require cooperative approaches to outline the terms and boundaries to avoid any misuse of this innovative technology. One successful example of taking a proactive approach to addressing such issues is The Dutch Blockchain Coalition (DBC). DBC is a partnership, under the Dutch Digitalisation Agenda, that brings together experts from the public sector, academic institutions, and business to address such issues. The DBC's goal is to advance trustworthy and durable blockchain technologies, foster the optimal conditions for the emergence of blockchain applications, and make use of blockchain as a source of welfare, wealth, and security for the Dutch people.
For this function, the DBC serves primarily as a mediator & coordinator, whose main goal is to ensure open dialogue and productive collaboration between main stakeholders and other communities of practice.
